Our Story
The history of Bodega El Legado goes back to 1968, when Luis Marzuca acquired these lands in Carmelo with the dream of founding a winery. At that time, the winemaking tradition of the region was very much alive, with Italian and Spanish families dedicated to wine. However, the 1982 crisis hit hard: the family business went bankrupt, part of the land was sold, and this vineyard remained in other hands for 25 years. Luis passed away shortly after, leaving his dream on hold.
In 2007, the family recovered part of the estate and decided to transform the original idea into a more intimate, family-oriented project. Bernardo Marzuca, together with his wife María Marta Barberis, promoted the planting of small parcels of Tannat and Syrah with vines brought from France. The bet was not on large volumes, but on high-quality wines and a wine tourism experience that, at that time, few could imagine for Carmelo.
Over time, their children Federico, Santiago, and Juan joined the project, each contributing their own energy and vision. The winery grew gradually, incorporating reception areas, lodging, and even a swimming pool among the vineyards, but always with the same focus: to maintain exclusivity and convey warmth. After Bernardo’s passing, the name “El Legado” (“The Legacy”) took on even greater meaning, reflecting a dream that the family continues with pride.
Today, El Legado is synonymous with authenticity, tradition, and hospitality. Each harvest is a reminder of the value of family work and of the passion passed down from generation to generation. Visitors to the winery not only taste unique wines, but also take with them a living story that continues to grow, toast after toast, in the heart of Carmelo.
